Where Are You All???

I CANNOT BE THE ONLY ONE THAT’S LIVING WITH THIS FORM OF AUTISM

This is what I said to my therapist in early April 2022 among yet another April Autism Awareness Month of bullshit. They suggested I create some community. Then I thought of An Alleged Autistic. And A Puzzling View. And the comments, referrals, the Google referrals and other blogs that tied those two. And within a weekend in late April, on my own hosting platform as opposed to WordPress.com, I then imported the two of the three blogs and retroactively brought 2022 back to 2012 again.

I cannot be the only one that doesn’t support ASAN and Autism Speaks simultaneously. It cannot make any sense. I suspect there is only 30% of people on the existing ASD spectrum that, a good 10 to 20% are ones that are in diapers, that are in their 20s and watching Sesame Street (OMG the outrage that my child can’t go to Harvard!) There has to be less #ActuallyAutistic types, that all-about their disability 24x7x365. There’s less Ari Nee’hans and Samantha Cranes as well as the aforementioned severely autistic types.

In fact, I suspect in America, there is probably about 60% of the existing cases of ASD to be like…

  • Non to limited verbal but functioning for their situation (meaning they aren’t mute-and-dumb)
  • Low-to-mid average IQ (which means you’re somewhat compatible with the ‘typicals, but not typical enough to fit in) either socially or intellectually
  • Your social skills are OK when the situation is not as autistic as you.
  • You have flunked in high school or failed to go to higher education because the system wasn’t ready for you
  • That your severity is on needs and support, not just your autistic disability
  • You are an adult and you’re in your 20s to 30s (being the forgotten generation)
  • You are a family member, friend or even a significant other that is trying to reach out and seek a safe space.

Well consider this to be your safe-space to prevent what could happen, hence why I stick to that title, the “hopeless autistic” – it enforces the an individual with ASD can be just as painful as what a parent may be emotionally dealing. If a parent can exploit their child for lonely birthdays or “crapisodes” then why can’t you?  I hate to use Nixonian language, but I feel like I and you or your loved one is the “silent majority”. I get loud, but I keep my pride in check, with modesty and know when the shut up. The Anti-vaxers and the Nothing-About-Us-Without-Us is not addressing the potential that you (or loved ones) or I are looking for.

Are you folks into newsgathering with Lego? Are you a collector of things like ol enterprise tech? Are you into oddball podcasts? That’s what I do outside of publishing this site. There more like you and me, than the other groups. Let’s join together virtually to hold hands when the system does fall apart there is a safety net. It’s that bad in 2022.
