Breaking News: New Hampshire Senate today May Cancel the state’s Council on Autism Spectrum Disorders…

On today’s docket in Concord, our legislature wants to disband the NHCASD. A comment in a family support interest group is rather interesting on Facebook, which supports the disbanding… the parent seems to be pro co dependent supports and has a focus on cute little boy audiences not the hairy ol creepy men types

“As a parent who’s deeply involved in advocating for individuals with autism and their families, I want to share my thoughts about the NH Autism Spectrum Disorder Council. This council used to be a strong voice for our community, but unfortunately, it hasn’t been effective for a very long time.
When the council first started (2008), it did amazing work. They held trainings, worked on important laws, and provided resources that helped families like ours. But over the years, it’s become almost invisible. Since 2017—seven years ago—there haven’t been any public meetings, no annual reports, and no real action to address the needs of our community. This includes no response to the challenges families faced during the COVID-19 pandemic.
What’s even more frustrating is that, despite not doing anything for years, the council was able to pass legislation to add more members (2022). This makes me wonder: how can a council that hasn’t met in seven years justify its existence, let alone expanding?
I’ve been open about my concerns with this council and how it’s failed to address autism-related issues in our state. I’ve talked to past council members, state representatives, and others to share my frustration. I even tried to join the council as a parent representative, but I ran into the same barriers that many other families have faced; gatekeeping.
The last big thing this council did was the Connor Law back in 2011—over a decade ago.
That’s why I’m advocating for repealing this council and moving its responsibilities under the NH Quality Council. At least 51% of the NH Quality Council’s members are individuals with disabilities or parents of individuals served by the system. This council has had decades to improve snd develop. Waste of resources in actual help for NH families.”

I will try to do a rapid response video after the fact
