Accessibility Policy

The accessibility policy, is an in-house that strides to be as accessible as possible, that is within reason since the inception in 2011.

  • The front page has at least five recent posts, the navigation to the various static pages are no less than 20, the links on the right hand of the site are to the point, with a tag cloud.
  • All blog posts by minimum is 500 words, before “read more” link appears
  • All hypertext links are alt-tagged by default, there is no such thing as click here, where “here” is linked, which could lead to confusion to the visually impaired viewer. Also phrases are not linked, it must be a readable part of a sentence.
  • To prevent sensory overload of information, is five linked URLs per 500 words. Links should be attributed into the main copy to begin with.
  • Closed captioning on videos is auto-generated by the platforms that host videos, due to the significance of ad-libbing that I do that can go over 20 minutes per video plus transcribing them
  • Alt Text for Images: The spirit for this site is an extension to a caption, with more nuance, but just an overall summary. Anything that has text is the priority (as the infamous full-screen newsie graphics), as most text images are not copied down into the actual post. It is not in my position to be the one painting a subjective image and explain it. The default image on this site would read “A picture of a handwritten message hashtag-hopelessautistic on sand at Hampton Beach State Park at sunset”
  • By doing what competing platforms do crosses the boundary of politicizing images, which is objecting fairness of an overall summary. The other argument that makes sense is for people who are colorblind who can’t tell the difference. However the best practice is to explain the point of the image, the focus where the viewer should see.
  • Alt Linking on other social media platforms. Some platforms will put the entire URL as a posted link, that is out of the control of this site.

The policy can change at any time.
