The Top 5 Heartbreaking Songs

As dictated by Corporate America, in mid January it’s now the season for Valentine’s Day, despite less than a month away. I’d thought I’d share my Top 5 hearbreaking songs, since listening to the easy-music station in my preteen years, was more than likely an oman of my hopeless romance I’d encounter well past adulthood.

5. The Guess Who: No Time Left for You

This song is perfect for teenagers who had a summer or spring crush to find out they would bail them in the fall as per to the lyric “Seasons changed and so did I.” It’s not just summer crushes, it can be applied to friendships who can bail on you at any time

4. Bonnie Tyler: Total Eclipse of the Heart

This stormy, heart wrenching love song that many stations continue to play after 3 decades is so traumatizing. I mean this is a five minute song, very atypical for pop songs then or now. I wondered if Bonnie Tyler really killed her vocal cords after performing this song. I don’t know who in the hell would want to sing this song (or the party remix from the early 90s.) In fact one of the clients in my day program sang this song when it aired recently…why the hell would you like this song in the first place? Did the video make you want to run away from my blog too?

3. Pat Benatar: Heartbreaker

This is a perfect breakup song, or say a crush that screwed you over. In my mid twenties, just within the last couple of years, I was playing this song often. Excuse me while I sing the last verse in the high pitch HEARTBREAKER!

2. Heart: If Looks Could Kill

This song literally lives up to its name. I’ve personally been a victim of this expression again in the literal sense. American women today are so snooty, so classless, so “don’t look at me because I’m hot” attitude makes you want to look at the other direction. That girl that once lived up the street of my original town would fit this profile perfectly

1. The Pretenders: I’ll Stand By You

This song is not the typical heartbreak songs by breakup, but per to the lyrics and music video, its actually to do with death. Regardless, if you’re a loner not by choice; or you were pushed away from people not sticking up for your – or hell – even felt so hopeless that you were in your last own darkest days, this song would fit as well. Supposedly romance and love never ends that’s if its true love… but what do I know?
