Back to Reality When There’s Atrocity

Happy New Year, and a somber one for those in the Big Easy.

With those developments in the last couple of days, 2025 is starting off a bit rocky and it’s a bit concerning. There is some late breaking developments after the Eat The Press rant. The man who died from the explosion of the Cybertruck near the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas was from an apparent suicide. It’s believed that the man was so desperate he went as far from Denver to harm himself over what had occurred in New Orleans that was an apparent terrorist attack.

As this story is reported in one of the worst haphazard ways, in modern newsgathering history, the noise at the Fox News Channel is still past 20, but ironically they’re sensitive enough that for The Five, they have played the theme package for the first time in many years, over radio music which is the standard bumpers on both channels (the other being Fox Business.)

This evening my mother was getting wrapped up with all the emotional drama of the breaking story thanks to the cast of The Five, I have continued to stand by of my actions of gently challenging her amonicity to the-other by giving her other perspectives (in the same way she would do to me, the difference is reason to me like I was a 12 year old.) The speculation or conspiracies, it’s just using right wing deflections like the head of the NOLA PD allegedly being a “DEI hire”, while the police had some protective gear laying around and no one in the city knew about said hardware for protection of the French Quarter.

It’s not discussed enough how New Orleans has been devastated for 19 years following the aftermath of the September 2005 Hurricane Katrina. The city is poor, and is ironically the left leaning part of the state of Louisiana. Regardless of the politics, no one is talking about the lack of governance but just calling them out as “inept” without digging deeper into the city. While hte head of the police has said they “don’t want to be pointing fingers”.

Katrina was a political disaster and I suspect the New Year’s Terrorist attacks has been in many was a lot worse. The rhetoric of that time was reserved for AM-band talk radio and certain shows on cable news mostly on primetime. I lived through that time watching the news then, that’s why I say the events yesterday pales in comparison which is really sad to admit.

From 5:45 to 6:00, the conversation just got dark and my mother shut down. Shaken yet again, I just quietly went back to my room as she got mad that her streaming app was taking a little to load. My mother is literally acting like a Generation Alpha child!

Tonight was family game night. I don’t point to too many fingers, but the parasocial media is really breaking down in this household. I am not hooked into cable news unlike I used to, even local. Things were already too tense, I came into the living room with a tense parent, I was trying to bring the post 9/11 vibes to only be shut down because it was apparently me that was shutting her down.

This can be a story of many people older than a millennial who feels left out, and in their mind, their solution is to shut themselves out of reality, deny the fact that nothing is as simple, tune to a cable news channel just to hear something that sounds like their friends and I will go so far to say consciously believe in what the person on camera says. They really believe in their bullshit of inconvenience is their injustice and and they’ll continue to fo so rad emotionally, to the point they wonder why they are so alone. It’s almost as if I am talking about myself, I am actually not, this is my typical parent acting emotionally stunted. Valdiation can become as addicting as junk food and sometimes challenging people goes to far and it can be contending.

Again this was supposed to be a Family Game Night, and well it got canceled because someone’s emotional dysreg  yet again got in the way. I kinda knew this for over a year now.

I can literally tell you what has been WRONG in the last couple days – NO one is LISTENING. EVERYONE IS SHOUTING WITH EMOTIONS.
