Commentary: Autism is NOT Aspergers

Asperger Syndrome is NOT autism! Autism is autism. Autism is a spectrum of severity of the disorder and a melting pot of disorders including developmental, neurological, mental and emotional disorders.
Why should Asperger’s be classifed as autism when they are functioning themselves? They can take care of themselves. They can drive, go to college and get a girl without any assistance.
These politics make autism a vague (read: alleged) and growing skeptism of the disorder when it keeps evolving, to use the phrase of the antichrist psychologist community.

  1. I agree with you that Asperger’s syndrome and autism are two different disorders. However when you state that people with Asperger’s can drive and ‘get a girl’ I have to disagree with you. I’m 49 years old and have recently been diagnosed, I’m unable to drive, have never had a job or a relationship…in many ways I’m far more disabled than someone with autism. Of course there’s nothing wrong with me, I’m merely different, yet disabled by the prejudices and discriminatory actions of other people.

    • I can’t speak for your condition, however I for one, cannot stand the evolution of the “labels”. Unfortunately, AS is the sounding board for the high functioning autism. Also I live one city away from Middlesex County, Massachusetts, the same region where Harvard and MIT (and all the other “smart” schools) are located. That is also the same county where there is a large base of high functioning autistics that have labels other than autism, the same type of people who smear Asperger Syndrome towards the general public.
I have also known over time that if I lived in Massachusetts and if I was labeled with that instead of autism, I’d be laughing my way to the bank with all the services they provide. And if I lived in Massachusetts and was labeled with my current autism label, PDD-NOS, I’d probably fail with the state tests and not get a HS diploma and be treat as a third-class citizen, behind the illegal immigrants and the Asperger crowd.
That last couple sentences were part of the reasoning behind this commentary.
Again, I can’t speak for your case, however the “label” business that is powered by the hack “doctors”, in my opinion needs to stop by pulling their licenses to “help” these groups of people. Because my head is spinning with the constant flip flopping of the autism politics.
